How long does it take to do level 7 CIPD?

The duration of a CIPD Level 7 qualification varies depending on the type of qualification (Diploma, Certificate, or Award) and your chosen study mode (full-time, part-time, or fast-track).

Key Factors Influencing Duration

  1. Study Mode: Most professionals complete the Level 7 Diploma part-time while working, which typically takes 2 years. Full-time university courses are shorter (around 1 year) but require a full-time commitment.
  2. Provider Flexibility: Some providers offer “On Demand” or self-paced options that allow you to extend your study up to 36 months if needed.
  3. Experience & Fast-track: Apprenticeship routes or intensive fast-track programs can reduce the time to around 14-16 months, provided you have the capacity for a more intensive workload.
  4. Academic Level: Since Level 7 is equivalent to a Master’s degree (Level 7 in England and Wales), the workload is significant. Most students commit roughly 7 to 15 hours per week to their studies.
Note: The CIPD Level 7 is the highest level of qualification offered by the CIPD and is intended for experienced HR or L&D professionals who want to move into strategic, senior leadership roles. Upon completion of the Advanced Diploma, you are eligible for Chartered Membership (Chartered MCIPD).
